A 2009 study by the Department of Agriculture found that 2.3 million households do not have access to a car and live more than a mile from a supermarket. Much of the public health debate over rising obesity rates has turned to these “food deserts,” where convenience store fare is more accessible—and more expensive—than healthier options farther away. This map colors each county in America by the percentage of households in food deserts, according to the USDA’s definition. Data is not available for Alaska and Hawaii. Yeah, veganism is TOTALLY accessible for the entire US population /sarcasm.

This isnt just about veganism.  It’s about having the ability to make ANY kind of good food choices.  When the stores limit your choices for you, what are you supposed to do with ANY kind of diet, be it vegan, vegetarian, or even omnivore.  You can be healthy and omnivore if you have the right resources.  But people in food deserts dont even have that.  They have corner stores that take WIC and carry nothing but snack food, but it’s the ONLY place within walking distance.

it is possible for people to have a garden no matter how small…you can grow vegetables in plant pots, it is quite easy.  If you have a lil bit of garden outside you can grow a few plants there as well.  and dont say you dont know how…google is your friend.

I’ll agree that you can grow vegetables, etc. yourself in your back yard. But, I’ll have to say that if you don’t own a car and live more than a mile from a grocery store then you probably do not have access to the internet, whether because you can’t afford the internet or because internet access is non-existent because it’s a rural area.
